Introduction

This training is designed to introduce age-appropriate behavior and appropriate adult expectations. Guidance techniques that promote positive behaviors of children in group settings are also presented.

This training is based on information on pages 70-83 in the Child Care Center Licensing Guidebook, 2nd ed. (2006). DEL-LC 2001 (x) 10/06. 

 Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the relationship between a child’s age-appropriate behavior and adult expectations.

  • Identify age-appropriate expectations for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and school-age children.

  • Identify inappropriate expectations that adults may have for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and school-age children.

  • Identify guidance styles that promote positive behaviors in children.

  • Identify appropriate guidance techniques for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and school-age children.

  • Identify inappropriate guidance techniques.
